Mitchell joined Tannehill Carmean after twenty two years in “big law firm” practice where he represented insurance companies, international corporations and governmental entities. He learned how big business and insurance companies plays the game, and now he is on the side of real people who need a lawyer to fight for them. Mitchell focuses 100% of his time now helping individuals and small, mom-and-pop, businesses. An Eagle Scout, Mitchell strives to practice the oath he learned early in life – “On my honor, I will do my best to help other people at all times.” He joined Tannehill Carmean because the firm was built on helping the people of Ole Miss, Lafayette County and North Mississippi.
Mitchell practices in the firm’s civil, personal injury division representing people who have been injured. Most of these kinds of cases involve dealing with and negotiating with insurance companies, and, as a former insurance company lawyer, Mitchell knows how insurance companies think and how to best present your case to them. He is motivated by helping real people get the results they deserve. If your case needs to go to trial, Mitchell has tried cases all across North Mississippi and is AV Preeminent® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, rated 10.0 Superb by AVVO, has been repeatedly listed in the U.S. News and World Reports list of Best Lawyers in Insurance Litigation and is also a Mid-South Super Lawyer.
Mitchell also practices criminal law representing people accused of both misdemeanor and felony crimes. He has defended hundreds of Lafayette County citizens and Ole Miss students and has achieved dismissals of charges as serious as manslaughter, sexual assault, robbery and trafficking of controlled substances, as well as dismissals of DUI, public intoxication and other misdemeanors. He has repeatedly been nominated as one of the top 100 criminal defense lawyers in Mississippi. After over 22 years of practice in the courtrooms of Mississippi, Mitchell knows the decision-makers, has developed professional relationships across the state, and can counsel you on your best options to deal with your legal issues.
Mitchell takes family law cases for clients who put their family, especially children, first in all family disputes and refuses to represent clients who want to use their children as pawns in a legal game. He represents a number of small, family-owned businesses in day-to-day affairs. Mitchell is married to a lawyer, Brooke Newman Driskell, who has also been practicing law in Oxford for years. He has two active sons that keep him busy away from the office.
